Introducing yourself or your family through a video could significantly increase your chances of finding a match and starting your Au Pair experience!

It is a great way of showing your personality and stand out among all the other applicants! Still, we know that it might be a bit overwhelming to sit in front of a camera and talk about yourself.

For this reason, in this post we have gathered  a few useful tips that will help you produce a successful video!

Au Pair Video
One of the key success factors that will help you to find a Host Family is an attractive Au Pair profile. You can describe yourself in detail there, add a letter to the Host Family, some photos and also an introduction video. A video will help Au Pairs and Host Families to get a more real impression about you. Here we have collected some tips to help you create a nice video.

Content

  • Plan in advance what you would like to say. Prepare a script and summarize the main points of your presentation.
  • Language: Talk in the language you would like to work with or in English.
  • Present yourself. Try not to repeat all the details from your profile, as most people watching a video have probably gone through the profile as well. Make a brief intro about you: your name, occupation, where you are from, what you like, your hobbies and, most importantly, why you decided to take part in the program. You can share with your future Host Family  or Au Pair how your typical day looks like. It will give them a great idea about your priorities and interests.
  • It would also be helpful to talk about your experience in childcare or tutoring (if you have any) or about any other jobs you’ve had, what skills you gained from them, etc.
  • Virtual childcare or tutor: if you are applying as a tutor or for virtual childcare, focus on your teaching method and on the activities you plan to do with your students.
  • Don’t read your speech and try to be as natural as possible.
  • Be precise and clear. The video presentation shouldn’t be longer than 2 or 3 minutes.
  • Introduce your family and friends. Let your friends and family say something about you to make the video more interactive. The third party opinion adds a special value. If you are a Host Family, you can show your home and future Au Pair room

Filming tips

  1. Choose an area with enough light, preferably a natural one. This will ensure that your video is clear.
  2. Try to set a clean and quiet background
  3. Speak slowly and as clear as possible: every person has a specific language accent while talking. Your video will most likely be viewed by non-native speakers, so make sure they understand it. A good idea would be to rehearse what you want to say, as reading can worsen the quality of the video.
  4. Wear appropriate clothes and make-up
  5. Ask somebody to help you with the filming
  6. Keep all of this in mind, but don’t forget to be confident and natural! Show what your real personality is like, so that you will be remembered.
  7. Don’t be afraid to be creative. You can also make a video out of your pictures, short movies, with music background.

Video editing

Nowadays, there are plenty of apps and softwares that can skyrock any visual material. From simple to professional, from desktop to cloud base options - you can find any editor of your taste. Check out the list of simple and free video editors you can use.

How to avoid scammers?
If you are contacted by someone who seems to be unreliable, pay attention to the following:
  • If there is an email address in the profile picture
  • You have been asked to make a transfer through MoneyGram, Western Union, or to set up some deposit account.
  • You have been contacted by some agency or a lawyer. They might have sent you a visa application or sample contract.
  • Someone advises you to pay rent for a flat.
  • The Au Pair just asked you to pay for the flight ticket. Although some Au Pairs expect Host Families to help them with travel costs, there are certain rules of cost refund.
  • The Host Family contacts you on Facebook.
These are some of the most popular scam situations. If you encounter any of these before our administrators, or if you ever feel uneasy, please get in touch with us so we can take measures against scammers. Learn more about Au Pair scam schemes that might happen.
