There is a lot to organize, as soon as the right Host Family or the right Au Pair is found. The complete documents, the ticket, little presents and packing the bag - the participants should think about everything, because the Au Pair can't just go back real quick to her/his home country to deal with something.
What do I have to think of?
An international health insurance for the Au Pair is extremly important. It will vary from host country to host country and also depends on the home country of the Au Pair. EU citizens benefit from the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Which services will be supported by the EHIC is different. So everybody with a wish to live in a foreign country for some time should check which services will be covered by the EHIC and which ones won't and negotiate an additional private insurance.
Even though one doesn't like to think about it, but as an Au Pair it is possible that an accident happens and the participant might have to go to the hospital or back to her/his home country for treatment. Even if it's just a flu or a hurting tooth the Au Pair has to be treated and the costs for it have to be covered. It's clear that the Au Pair doesn't want to go back home only for a root canal treatment. That's why the right international health insurance is of great importance. Because if dental treatments or only a view at the tonsils are not included in the insurance can become really expensive.
